"By grace of Darkness, fluid Diamond. Egeria".
This is the prelude to the new mystic and veiled world of MaterDea, a path opening up in the middle of twilights and dawns, myth and legends, radiant grace and the oblivion of darkness...
“A Rose for Egeria” (Midsummer's Eve - 2014), third album of the Italian band is characterized of a new musical expression and a more powerful sound, rich of technical refinements although maintaining the flourished melodies to which MaterDea’s audience is already accustomed.
MaterDea was born out of the collaboration between Simon Papa and Marco Strega in 2008. Since the release of their first album they created a band with a strong rock structure perfectly blending with mystical and dreaming atmospheres. Here, the voices, fiddle and keyboards graciously draw melodic lines on the powerful rhythmic session.
The perfect synergy between the male and female, stage costumes, instruments, musical atmosphere and vocal weaving help make the show unique and engaging. In their first album "Below the Mists, Above the Brambles" (Capogiro Records -2009) the accordionist John Whelan appears as a special guest in the beautiful ballad "Another trip to Skye" here reinterpreted with original lyrics written by MaterDea. From this piece they also produced their first videoclip.
In November 2011 the band released the second album “Satyricon” (Midsummer's Eve 2011) together with the new videoclip "Lady of Inverness". Satyricon gained many beautiful reviews from both Europe and USA. Between 2011 and 2012 the band had the opportunity to participate in important international festivals like Pipes and Drums Celtic Festival in Geneve, (Switzerland), Fosch Fest (BG), Triskell Festival (TS), Tarvisium Celtica TV), Insubria Festival (MI), Beltane Festival (BI), Celtic Days Festival (BS) and Female & Folk Fest (MI).
In the fall of 2012 MaterDea starts to work at the third album, "A Rose for Egeria", that will be completed in January 2014. During 2014 and 2015 the band tours all around Italy and participates in various other festivals like the Symphony Metalfest (Vevey – CH), Wings of Bea (VC) and MetalFest (SS), Fuochi di Taranis (BO), Rockland Fest (PV), Summer Soltice Folk Fest (MI), Bum Bum Festival (BG).
